Hajipur: Pramod Bhagat who won gold at Tokyo Paralympics to be awarded Khel Ratna

Pramod Bhagat from Hajipur, who won the gold medal in badminton singles in the Tokyo Olympics, will be awarded Khel Ratna. Muzaffarpur sports world atmosphere is filled with a wave motivating every other sportsperson from the area and the state to aspire for more on Pramod being selected for this award. Committee of Paralympics Muzaffarpur Secretary Kumar Aditya said that 11 players, including Pramod Bhagat, who created history by winning the gold medal, have been selected for the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, the country’s top sports honor.

He further said that Pramod Bhagat, who won the gold medal in Tokyo Paralympics, is originally from Vishunpur Basant Mohalla (Chhath Pokhara Tola) of Hajipur Sadar area. Pramod clinched India’s gold by defeating an England player by 21-14 and 21-17 in straight games in the final of Men’s Singles (SL-3) in Tokyo held this year.

Pramod had polio at the age of four. Pramod’s aunt Kusum Devi took Pramod with her to Bhubaneshwar. There he studied and from school level, he made badminton his career. He earlier represented the Odisha badminton team in the Nationals.

Bhagat is the first sportsperson/athlete from Odisha to have been nominated for the highest sporting honor, Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna (Sport Jewel) which was formerly known as the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award
